August happens to be my least favorite month of the year due to the heat and humidity. This year I decided to counteract my August grumpiness by starting to sew for Fall. So far I’ve finished a corduroy jacket and am halfway done a corduroy skirt. Anyone else getting ready for the cooler weather?

Great subject themedusa! I am getting ready to sew some items for myself for a change. I usually have a long list of items from my daughters and can’t find the time to sew for myself so this is a treat! I have decided to make a dress from the new burda magazine page 48 issue 8/2009 and am going through my fabric stash to see what fabric I have that could work. I am also going to make a skirt and top but have not yet chose the right one. I need to get to work and will post as soon as I finish! Keep sewing with a smile!

Love that dress in Burda 8/2009! I made a muslin for it last week and found it that pleated skirt didn’t work all that well with my figure. Still love the pattern so I’ll be pretty psyched to see your version.

Wanted to let you know that after making my muslin version of this dress it is not appropriate for my figure type either and looked really awful. I guess I will move on to other projects.

I joined the Chanel jacket sew along, so I’ll be in the jacket business in the following 2 months (or less). I have been quiet on the blog, but I’m getting ready to start my own adventure.

Oh, I was really tempted to join it too… maybe I will (but there are SO many things I want to sew, can’t decide on what to begin with!). It’s a great idea, the chanel-jacket-thingy!

I’m so over this seudo summer. Bring on the fall sewing!
I LOVE Burda 8/2009. I’ve already traced the long pencil skirt and the dress with the center seam. I have a great chunk of brown and pink wool glencheck for the skirt (and maybe a vest later on) and I’m still debating over fabric for the dress.
A Chanel jacket sew along! That’s great… unfortunately that pattern is for petites, right? Oh well, I’m in love with the longer coat (shown in gigantic houndstooth and camel) and the peacoat. I just bought enough cashere/wool for the longer version. I’m very excited. I still need to find an amazing lining for it. Does anyone have any suggestions for lining? Is silk charmuese ok for an over sized coat? Are there any real advantages to nylon over natural fibers? I want this to be a very luxurious, and good quality.

Yum sewing chanel jackets and big coats sounds delightful.

As the weather is really unreliable right now in Germany, I’m sewing pieces that can be worn now and once it gets a little colder. Mainly using burda patterns as well, the new issues are getting better and better. In addition, I’m already planning all the pieces I want for fall and another trip to the fabric store to get the required fabrics.

I totally agree with you that the burda issues have been really great recently. There are several things in the preview 9/2009 preview that I’m pretty excited about sewing.

I have two pieces of suiting, one b/w plaid, the other is a charcoal wool. At least one will end up in the closet, on a hanger We are moving in six weeks and one suit will be going with me. The other will arrive when I find my “round tuits.” I am learning to do a FBA for a DD. I had the C/D adjustment down fairly well. Over the years, I’ve developed/ignored the fact that I now have droopys. No big problem, just another adjustment of matter and mind. If I don’t mind, it doesn’t matter. ;) Cordially, Nehmah

after working so hard on my wedding stuff, i’m taking a break from sewing right now. i do have projects that i need to finish (paid ones) so those are getting done, but nothing for me or the new hubby.
i have spotted a nice brown “leather” that i would love to make a jacket out of (any pattern ideas?), a great pattern for knits i have stashed and a few plaids that would make lovely pants/flannel shirts. so those will be added to the “eventually” list.

I’m also looking for a jacket pattern from some imitation black leather. No luck yet but if anything pops up I’ll let you know.

i’m thinking something like Simplicity 2812 (the stand up collar, hip length) or Simplicity 3628.
really i’m looking for something sleek, and few seams, maybe a little military styling. maybe we should do our own little sew along, lol!

Have you seen the ‘Tudor Rose’ Jacket in 10/2009?
Love at first sight. <3

i don’t get the burda magazines, so no :(
i bought the pleather to make a jacket, thought about making the jacket, then returned the fabric. the more i though about all the work that would go into such a project, the more i didn’t want to do it!

Every fall makes me think about sewing a coat and then I talk myself out of it. Maybe it is time for a coat sew along. :)

I just finished two pairs of wool pants and am starting the hope dress. I have a stash of wool for a short jacket that I cn’t wait to use too.

I’m so excited about fall sewing this year! Between my MA thesis and other, paying sewing projects I won’t get to do all I want, but I’m aiming for a few skirts (have started a rust-coloured wool one) and a burnt-orange wool flannel suit that I’ll use one of my vintage 1950s patterns for! Oooh, and hopefully a few cooler-weather dresses from wool jerseys, etc. Um….and a blouse or two (I have one that will go with the rust and burnt-orange wools perfectly that’s been waiting to be finished for about 2-3 yrs).
Hmmm…..looking at the above it appears I have my work cut out for me – or a lot of cutting-out work ahead of me, ha-ha-ha.

Sounds like you have a lot of great stuff on your to sew list. That burnt orange wool sounds delicious.

I’m working on my HIkaru (85% done!) and I’m already thinking about what my next project will be. I think a wool pencil skirt would be a good boost for my fall wardrobe.

Ooo I’ll be looking for your pictures of Hikaru when it’s all done.
Just got the fabric for mine last night but I’ve got a maternity jacket to finish for my sisters baby shower first.

I have finished my Chanel coat, and now I’m really inspired to sew more clothes for fall. I’m working on BWOF 8/2009 #116 jacket at the moment,
http://www.burdafashion.com/en/119_Jacket/1437262-1724618-1724622-1724857.html
and I have few more ideas for a velvet coat, pants – vest suit and a blouse. Oh, I wish the day was longer! :-)

I’m getting closer to the finish line on my Hikaru! It’s been such an enjoyable project that I’m in no rush to finish. Once it’s done I think my next project will be a Lydia Tshirt which will be a nice instant gratification project, and I’ll get to try out my new serger on knits!

I have finished my BWOF jacket!
This one was a lot of work – mostly caused by the fabric I chose. But I love the result. :-)
The next project is already cut and ready to be sewed – the dress BWOF 06/2009 #107.

I am not sure whether the style would suit me, so I picked some cheap black viscose to try it out.

Well I guess I am doing my summer sewing for Autumn because the husband to be and I are off to Florida to get hitched. Two pairs of shorts for him and a couple of dresses for me I hope. This does all depend on my learning to sew within the next three weeks

Yay, I finished my Hikaru ( and photographed it yesterday – will post pics soon) and I also wipped out a Lydia T-shirt (also photographed) in a cozy black striped cotton jersey.
I’m not sure what I’ll start next. I think I’ll have to finish up some UFOs first…. then probably a pencil skirt and maybe some pants.

I’m working on chambray button down (Emily) and I think I’m going to make another jacket very soon (green wool, shawl collar), but I think the next thing I cut will be a skirt (brown/pink glencheck).
