I live in Australia and funky designer quilting fabrics are very expensive here. I am going to Hawaii in April.
Can anyone recommend a good store for great fabric in Honolulu or Kona.
Thanks bigzig.

My husband lived in Maui but doesn’t remember ever seeing any there. Have you tried goggling it? I know there are several website that sell Hawaiian batiks, but not sure if they are based in Hawaii.

Wow, lucky you, bigzig! I spent time in Hawaii way back before I knew anything about sewing – their prints are fabulous! I’m green with envy!

I used to do hula, and we used Hawaiian Fabric Mart (I think it’s called fmart online) for a lot of the fabric that we used for our costumes. I think they have free-standing stores, and they do ship (I just don’t know if they ship to Australia). They had a great selection of cotton and cotton prints, and the prices weren’t too bad, even with the dollar exchange.

I was just in Hawaii a couple of weeks ago and my goal was to buy fabric too! I actually just wrote a post about it on my blog today, check it out here: http://sewaholic.net/fabric-stores-in-hawaii/
Only one store was close enough to visit but it was really great, with huge selection and reasonable prices. I also checked Wal-mart in Hawaii but didn’t see anything I liked, the fabrics were cheaper but also cheaper-looking. If you can make it to this one, it probably has everything you’re looking for. Feel free to ask me if you have any questions!

When I visited Honolulu, I purchased fabric at the swap meet: http://www.alohastadiumswapmeet.net/
