View The BurdaStyle Resource Map in a larger map

Back in November, we introduced our Resource Map, a collection of great fabric, craft and sewing businesses around the world. The idea came from our desire to discover and share some the best places to get a proper sewing, notions or fabric-buying fix. Listening to some of your feedback, we have decided to revise the Resource Map a bit, in order fully utilize its incredible potential.

Originally, the Resource Map solely offered space for paid listings, where businesses could be featured for a small fee. We are now making the map a free listing directory!

Do you have a great sewing-related spot you want to share? Tell us about it and we will add it to the map! We love discovering great new places recommended to us, and are excited to learn about your favorite sources for all thing crafty, sewing-related and inspiring.

Suggestions must be sewing-related, including fabric stores, sewing lounges, sewing notions and supply shops, and sewing machine dealerships. Please e-mail David[at]BurdaStyle[dot]com, providing the following:

- Business Name
- Type of Business
- Website
- Contact Name, Email and/or Phone Number
- Physical Address (if applicable)
- Hours of Operation (if applicable)
- Your BurdaStyle username

We can’t wait to get your recommendations!

XD You’re in the same are as me! But yeah there’s hardly anywhere around here that does fabric. There are some really cheap fabric stores around the Spitalfields are of London though…

Oh how great that you made it free! That way it will be a million times as useful as the old version. It would also be great if we could leave comments about the shops etc, to help each other find the real gems :-).

I agree, this would be great, I could list heaps of stores, but would only recommend about 2 of them. This way we could also notify each other of sales, new stock, fabric that might suit a particular BurdaStyle pattern etc

This is a much better arrangement. Might I suggest something else, though? Over on our fabric wiki, I implemented a similar device (which I called “Fabric Maps”), but with the idea that the user could provide, essentially “blog-like” information about the location recommended. I put up an example from my own context to showcase the idea (see http://fabricsinternational.wetpaint.com/page/FabricMaps", and click on the “gedwoods” link at the bottom of the page). This idea would be much better implemented on the BurdaStyle site than on the fabric wiki site, given the membership of BurdaStyle – you have a much more effective means to populate this database than we do on the fabric wiki site. This is a map-based database I would love to explore, with lots of personal information, anecdotes and stories about the locations to visit!

      Thanks Gedwoods!

This is a fantastic idea. I am definitely going to look into it.
